Emily Carr
According to historical records, Emily Carr came to the 100 Mile House area to visit friends in 1904 and the image of her on horseback is based on a photograph taken while she was here. She learned to ride a horse here in the Cariboo.
The mural is based on a composite of four of her paintings and has been stylized to emulate Ms. Carr’s unique painting technique. A team from the Cariboo Artists' Guild collaborated on the mural design and application in tribute to their 25th anniversary. It was GAG’s way of giving something back to The District of 100 Mile Arts Council in appreciation of all they do for the Arts as well as a gift to the District of 100 Mile House and community.
