100 MILE HOUSE MURAL SOCIETY

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the average mural cost?

There are many varying factors, which influence the cost of a mural. The size, wall surface, complexity of the design etc. all play a roll in determining the final quote. A very rough estimate for each mural is between $12.00 - $15.00 per square foot. This does not include the cost of preparation, priming or supplies.

How long does it take to paint a mural?

To date, most of the murals are completed in approximately 2 weeks or less. Again, there are many factors, which can affect the time-frame. We do not paint beyond mid September, however, in order to ensure a proper curing temperature for the paint.

Do you have to be an artist to participate in the painting process?

Absolutely not. Most of the artists welcome the public in assisting with the mural. There are many hours put into painting the background of the mural and the more hands, the better!

Who pays for the murals?

The murals can be funded by several different means. Some are paid for through Government grants, Corporate donations or funds raised by the 100 Mile House Mural Society. Others are privately funded by the building owner, business owner or family/friends of the mural subject. In some cases, the artists donate their time and the only cost for the mural is the paint and supplies.

What happens if the mural is vandalized?

The 100 Mile House Mural Society agrees to the maintenance of the mural, including touch-up and repair if vandalized, from the date of the signed agreement for a period of 15 years.

Aren't you just copying Chemainus?

This community event is as much about history as it is art. All of our murals tell a story about the people, places and events that have played a roll in the development of the 100 Mile House area. One of our main goals is to preserve our local heritage through this artistic approach. So although there are similarities, each community offers a very unique story all it's own.
